Minnesota Zoo Backstage Pass

We are looking for every reason to get outside this spring, and what grandparent doesn’t want adventures with the Grands that make lasting memories to build upon. The Minnesota Zoo Backstage Pass is one of those experiences. Check the calendar for dates to match up with a favorite animal. One of the next experiences is with tropical birds on May 4, 2018.

Before the Zoo opens (8am!), you’ll walk the Tropics Trail with a naturalist and Zookeepers, watching the trail wake up for the day. You’ll get to jump in and participate in the keepers’ morning routine, feeding birds in the aviary and the ducks in Gibbon Lagoon! During this experience, you’ll be surrounded on all sides by tropical birds during their morning feed—the perfect time to capture a beautiful photo or simply sit quietly and observe. You’ll also see lots of other animals, including our mammals and reptiles, as you walk the trail – without the normal crowds!

You and the Grands will learn about the behaviors and care of the zoo’s tropical birds, including threatened or endangered species; get to ask the Zoo staff all of your questions; and learn to identify several species. This interactive educational program is ideal for photographers, families, and birders of all kinds.

Time: 8:00-9:00 a.m.

Age: minimum 4 years old, participants younger than 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult

Fee: $75 per person

Group Size: Maximum of four participants, smaller groups may be combined.

The bird experience will be repeated on 6/02 and 7/28.

Other upcoming Backstage Pass Programs are with Bears, Kangaroos, Penguins, Sea Otters, Sharks and Rays (imagine feeding a 7ft. stingray by hand from above the Shark Reef tank in Discovery Bay!) Times and pricing varies. Don’t forget the camera!
