Owl Pellet Dissection

Eewwww! Right?! Not for kids - they dug right in at our local Oakdale Nature Preserve. See if your Nature Center offers this kind of fun!

We had a chart of all the different kinds of small bird and rodent bones that might be inside the gray ball of what the owl hacks up after dinner. They gave us tweezers and a magnifying glass for pulling apart the gray fluff and lining up matching tiny bones to the chart. It was all dry, but thank goodness for an abundance of hand sanitizer. The kids, then 6 and 4, were completely smitten!
