HELP! from a Visual Search Engine
Gosh, I love the light fixture in that before and after. I wonder how I can buy that?!
I found a recipe with my ingredients on Pinterest, but I want to see more versions for the best spice combination.
I love this table (in real life); I wonder where I can find more like it?
Great fashion shot, but I really just want to see those shoes.
Pinterest has developed, and is constantly improving, ways for you to search without narrowing or limiting your search with words.
Pinterest images can now be “pinched” to enlarge for seeing detail, and hopefully folks developing pins will use more high-resolution pictures to help Pinterest users do just that.
You may have noticed a white circle on the bottom right of pins. Now it includes the word More as you hover. If you click on it, Pinterest will show you more versions of that type of pin. So now you can see many versions of that corn and black bean salsa that will be focused on how it looks, not what someone called it (how would you know to search fro Cowboy Salsa?!). Accuracy and options will improve as more people use the option.
When you spot something specific in a Pin that you want to learn more about, tap the search tool in the top right corner. Then select the part of the Pin you’re interested in, and they’ll show you Pins just like the object. You can even filter your visual search results by topic so you find exactly what you’re looking for. So, if you zoom in on that lamp, you can discover what it’s called (“Antiqued Metal Funnel Pendant”), and where you can find it (Restoration Hardware). If you want to know more—like how to get a table like that—just resize your selection and move it around to instantly see more Pins.
With Pinterest Lens, their newest gadget (be sure to upgrade your Pinterest app to be able to see the camera icon), you can point your phone at something in real life, click the search and camera icons, and Pinterest will show you same or similar images, giving you clues on where to buy it or other ways to use or accessorize it. You don’t even need a Pinterest account! Mind blown. So when the gal at the next table has the cutest dang shoes, you can snap a pic, and buy a pair in your size before dessert. Again, the ability to match what you are searching for will improve as more people use the Lens; this is all new technology.
